Nobody wants to keep the Seanad we have now. There’s no argument there. But to me, it seems ridiculous to do scrap an entire chamber of democracy without ever having attempted to reform it.

There are one hundred ways to make the Seanad more constructive, more effective, more influential and more efficient. In abolishing it we’ll never get that chance.
